Colorado sculptor George Walbye is a product of the Rocky Mountain West, having spent his entire life in the states of Wyoming and Colorado. Born in Rawlins, Wyoming, Walbye lived his early years in that high plains sagebrush country. He spent a number of boyhood summers working on ranches in the area once homesteaded by his grandfather at Whiskey Gap. Following careers in education and sales, Walbye moved into the world of art as a sculptor, using the classical “lost wax” method, which transposes his original works from wax into bronze. Now as a fine artist, this self-taught sculptor focuses on both the legendary and contemporary west. Walbye has exhibited his bronzes in numerous shows and exhibitions, and his work is in private collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Walbye’s sculpture includes vessels with strong design elements and innovative representations of wildlife.
